Last night I attended a public lecture at the SLQ (State Library Queensland), Kurilpa Point Southbank Brisbane. Kurilpa Point, a traditional meeting point for Aboriginal folk. Being the traditional owners of the land, both past, present and emerging.
Facilitated by APDL (Asia Pacific Design Library) and UQ School of Architecture. Held annually, I've attended for the last 3 years. With a wide range of guest speakers from both locally here in Australia and abroad. Bringing a wealth of experience, discussing their approach and practice, with a different theme each year. This years them In 'terre' vention. 'terre' being the French word for 'earth'.
Last nights guest speaker was Rachel Neeson from Neeson Murcutt Architects. Rachel discussed some of the practices most recent projects. Including one particular dwelling located in Sydney. A magnificent residence, nestled amongst a natural fauna setting. Considering the surrounding area and how the practice approached the setting, how it interacts with that setting and of course the clients brief. Considering their living arrangements, values, which included a large entertainment space, with pizza oven and swimming pool or 'watering hole' for entertaining guests.

Thoroughly enjoying the level of detail, commissioned works with other artists that this particular project had. Not only this speech by Rachel, but also others from this years guest speakers. One of my other favourite lectures, from Kelly Shannon. Discussing an entirely new approach to Town Planning in Siam. The level detail and working in a team of experts addressing different aspects of the project.
