WECC Portrait Workshop

Sunday 15 May 2022, West End Camera Club Portrait Workshop in Spring Hill Brisbane.

Canon A1, Canon 50mm f/1.4 SSC, Kodak Gold 200, Godox ML60 off-camera LED 60watt (daylight balanced) on a tripod.

Model: Annie Morales
Dev & scan: Fotofast.com.au

Mostly natural light, with off-camera to camera left for some added fill / image balance on especially the face.

Same as above, with more detail on the eyes with classic portrait catch lights on the eyes.

Tight crop just above the waist.

Balanced with a good amount of space around the subject, incorporating the setting/ environment. Off-camera light to camera left adding some fill/ balance especially on the face.

Again with catch lights in the eyes, classic portrait. Off camera light not overpowering with a natural look.

Catch lights on the eyes from off-camera light, sunlight filtered through clouds above adding some drama to the image. Also adding highlights around the subjects figure (from the filtered sunlight). Perhaps a little ‘hot’ on the subjects from (her right) from the sunlight coming down. This could be dimmed slightly with a diffuser.

Overall light on the subject’s face (eyes) is balanced.

Fav.

Sunlight from above diffused through the clouds, off camera to camera left down below (coming from the front of the subject).

Sharp and focused on the eyes, with beautiful catch lights in the eyes. Rounded modifiers or sunlight will give the most natural looking (circular) catch lights. Square or other shaped soft boxes will obviously give weird shaped catch lights (not a fan).

Same lighting as above. The off camera light highlight on the grill to the left can be controlled with a barn door (or black cardboard) this will focus more light on the subject and cancel that spotting on the grill out giving a more natural effect. Passable .

As above, with off camera light to camera left for some beautiful catch lights on the eyes.

I love film. I love film portraits with mixed light.

HOLLYWOOD INSPIRED POSTERS WITH SHALEENA BAIN

Inspired by the Hollywood Movie Posters of yester year.

Working with Shaleena was an absolute joy, full of enthusiasm, a wide range of costumes and and assortment of fitting accessories, hair & makeup on point. Set in the Old Museum in Bowen Hills being the ideal location for our 3 hour shoot.

Shooting only on black and white film from Kodak and Rollei (35mm). With my 2x Canon A1 cameras on 50mm lenses (1x Canon 50mm f/1.4 Chrome Nose and 1x Canon A1 50mm f1/.4 SSC). With Minnie Behn-Katz assisting.

Composited in Adobe Photoshop CC (2021).

The lighting setup: Manfrotto Boom, cheap lightstand (for softbox), 2x Godox ML60 LED (60 watt) both set to daylight colour temperature.
